Fleshing out the SEED characters for the Graphic Novel

We’ve been trying to get the Graphic Novel Series off the ground for a while now. Unfortunately, we’ve had several setbacks, which have prevented us from moving forward as fast as I had hoped. So, I decided to tackle the project myself.

The idea for the comic book/graphic novel started almost two years ago. While I do have the artistic ability, I simply don’t have the time. So, I began to search for artists. Then, one contacted me. A very talented artist named Henrik Ryosa from Sweden sent me an e-mail and expressed interest in working on the project. We worked out a deal and he began working on it. The first thing we did was flesh out the main characters. This was the result:

I was beyond thrilled with what Henrik had done. We began working together on the first few pages of the first script, when due to unforeseen circumstances, he was not able to continue. That set us back a number of months.

Then, I was introduced to Sean Verster, an artist from Cape Town, South Africa. He was able to literally pick up where Henrik left off and again, I was thrilled with his work and we were able to get several pages done. That led to the following composite promotional piece, which we were able to use quite extensively in our marketing materials up to this point (click on the pic to enlarge):

Sean did fantastic work for us, but we didn’t have a very good budget to pay him what he was worth and since he makes his living doing this sort of work, we weren’t able to go very far with him either.

Therefore, in order to at least complete the Teaser of the Pilot Episode in a style that matched itself, I decided to put Henrik and Sean’s work aside (for now) and put something together myself. NOTE: If you or someone you know has the ability to emulate the same style of artwork that Henrik and Sean produced, please let us know by filling out the survey form on the Get Involved page.

I didn’t have the time to do pen and ink drawings and coloring, so I looked for other options. Then, it hit me! I already had all I needed. Using an upgraded version of the same software I used for the original concept animation Trailer, I was able to recreate the characters and produce the entire Teaser. Below is a mock-up of the main characters:
